Wedding bridesmaids

Wedding bridesmaids are female friends or family who are very close to the bride. Bridesmaids are traditionally unmarried, but this is very often not the case today. The bridesmaids help the maid of honor plan the bachelorette party and help the bride make wedding decisions. On the day of the wedding the bridesmaids get ready with the bride. If you have a younger bridesmaid (12-16 years old) you should make her a junior bridesmaid. There are very little differences between a bridesmaid and a junior bridesmaid. Sometimes the bride chooses a different style dress that is more appropriate for a younger woman. And a junior bridesmaid may not go to the bachelorette party if it is an adult themed party.

One of the bride's jobs is to pick out dresses for the maid of honor and bridesmaids. The dresses should be an appropriate fabric for the time of year of the wedding (no velvet in June). Pastels are usually worn in the warmer months and darker colors in cooler months. All the dresses should be ordered together. Different die lots may have a slightly different color. The bride also needs to choose a style that her bridesmaids will look good in. A new idea is to choose a color for the dresses and let the bridesmaids choose a style.

There is an old saying "three times a bridesmaid, never a bride." This saying comes from the idea that if a bridesmaid failed to catch the eye of a suitor three times that she would never find a husband. Most people do not know the rest of the rhyme, which says, "after 7 times a bridesmaid, the spell is broken and she would be a sure bet for marriage."

It is a tradition to give wedding attendants little gifts or favors to thank them for their time and support in helping with the wedding. Some suggestions are silk scarves, jewelry, perfume, or crystal. If you decide to give bridesmaids jewelry, try to pick out a piece that they can wear for the wedding.
