Wedding catering

Caterer Food at a wedding reception can be as formal or informal as you would like. Basic catering could include delivering ready-made sandwiches for an at home wedding. A more complex catering service could include multiple cooks and a wait staff to serve plates to each guest. Make sure to book the caterer early, even a year before the wedding. Ask your friends, family and reception site for names of reputable caterers. Some important decisions to make about catering are how to serve the food (sit down or buffet style), if you want appetizers, and what foods to serve for dinner and dessert. Having dinner buffet style cuts the costs of catering because you need fewer servers. A way to speed up the time it takes to get food in a buffet style dinner is to have two lines, one on each side of the table.

Important things to talk about with your wedding caterer
• Ask to taste a sample of their food. Do not hire a caterer until you have tasted their work.
• Make sure your reception site allows outside caterers. Some places only allow in-house catering, so you may be forced to use a reception sites catering service.
• Find out if the reception site provides tables, table cloths, chairs, silverware and dishware for the reception. Many caterers have these items available to rent.
• Ask the caterer for references and check them.
• Once you decide on what food will be served, ask the caterer if there is a price guarantee.
• About 3 months before the wedding meet with your caterer and get an exact cost per person.
• Find out if there is a cake-cutting fee. Sometimes caterers tack on a fee for cutting each piece of cake.
