Wedding gift registries

Wedding gift registries were started in 1901 in Minnesota. They help couples receive gifts that they want and prevents receiving gifts in duplicate. Couples go to a store, usually a large department store, and register a list of gifts they would like to receive. Guests are told the store(s) that the couple is registered at and decides what gift on the register to purchase. Once a gift has been purchased it is taken off the list so no other guests will buy the same gift. Wedding gifts are meant to help the newlyweds set up their new home and start a life together. Very often the gifts on registries are dinnerware, glassware, silverware, linens (tablecloths, towels, and sheets), kitchen appliances and electronics. Couples should choose a store or stores that their guests will be able to shop at easily. If many guests are from out of town it would be wise to register at a department store that has stores nationwide. Couples should also include their wedding date or grooms name in order to avoid mistaking two registered couples. They should also ask about the store policies on returns and exchanges. Wedding gifts can be given at anytime, so make sure to record who gave each gift so you can send out personalized thank you notes. If you would prefer gifts to be sent to your home, you should casually spread the word. Having guests bring gifts to the wedding ceremony can be a bit of a hassle. Some guests are bound to bring gifts, so an out of the way table should be set aside for the gifts. This way the gifts will not become damaged during the party. Have one of your bridal attendants in charge of taking those gifts from the reception to the couple's home.
