You will cherish your wedding photos for a lifetime, so they must turn out well. Professional photographers have a talent of catching those precious moments and freezing time so you can go back to them again and again in the future. Make sure you hire someone with experience shooting weddings. Someone who is very familiar with weddings will know where to be to capture the essence of the wedding.

Tips on booking a photographer

- Use a reputable photographer who had experience with weddings. It's best if they specialize in weddings and work full time.

- Book about a year in advance. The best photographers are booked early.

- View the photographers work. Make sure you see pictures with a variety of backgrounds, settings, and lighting (indoor and outdoor shots). There should also be a balance between formal and candid shots. Both types of photos are very important, but there needs to be a mix. Make sure you view the portfolio of the person who will be taking pictures at your wedding and not a generic portfolio of the shop.

- Ask for references and check them. Find out if past clients were happy with his/her work.

- Ask how long he/she has been in business.

- Find out of there are any wedding photo packages.

- How many pictures does he/she normally take at a wedding of this size? - Will the photographer hold on to the negatives, how long, can you buy them?

- What equipment do they use? Is it up to date?

- Does the photographer charge a flat fee or by the hour with a traveling fee?

- When you decide on a wedding photographer write a contact with the name(s) of the photographer, agreement of cost or rate, date and time, and location of the ceremony and reception. Professional photographers are essential to have during the ceremony and party, but a great touch is putting disposable cameras on each table. This encourages guests to take candid photos and shots that the professional photographer may not get. You can even buy disposable cameras that are decorated for weddings.
